Originally acquired by the Paul Mueller Company to showcase their stainless-steel brewery tanks, the building of Springfield Brewing Co, altered the landscape of downtown Springfield, MO. When Jim and Pat Hofherr established St. James Winery in 1970, they revitalized the local Italian wine tradition. Descendants of Italian immigrants settled in the St. James area in the late 1800s, cultivating Concord grapes. Initially used for juice and jelly, pristine growing conditions led to the expansion of vineyards and wineries. By 1922, over 1,000 acres of grapes and 200 wineries flourished. Prohibition ended this era, closing family wineries and leaving fertile ground untapped. The Hofherrs let the tradition live on today through their delicious wines in Branson, MO.
