History

In 1948, dedicated horse breeders formed the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Breed Association (MFTHBA) to preserve selectively bred Ozarks horses. Evolving into a stock company in 1958, the registry remained open until 1982, transitioning to “closed books” in 1983. In 2004, the MFTHBA Board of Directors launched the Missouri Fox Trotting Pony registry. The world headquarters in Ava, Missouri, hosts the annual Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Show and Celebration.

Events:

World Show and Celebration:

September’s World Show and Celebration feature world-class competitions, daily organized trail rides, seminars, clinics, and shopping.

Spring Show and Three Year Old Futurity:

June’s four-day event includes includes performance, model, versatility, ranch sorting and ranch horse competition. They also have daily organized trail rides, youth seminars, vendors, and special events.

Annual Youth Seminar:

A one-day opportunity during the Spring Show and Three Year Old Futurity for members aged 6 to 17 to expand equine knowledge.

National Trail Rides:

Join global members in two-day National Trail Rides, earning credits towards awards.

MFTHBA Carded Judges Clinics:

Periodic clinics for aspiring judges provide the first step to becoming an MFTHBA carded judge.

Trail Riding:

Renowned as “America’s Favorite Trail Horse,” the Missouri Fox Trotter excels on trails. The MFTHBA sponsors the Fox Trot America Program, recognizing members and their horses. Join organized rides, the National Trail Ride Program, or partner with Top Trail for additional recognition. Top Trail’s top mileage earner participating in the Fox Trot America Program becomes the Missouri Fox Trotting Horse Trail Horse of the Year, commemorated in the MFTHBA Hall of Fame.
